Our Story

SolarGambia was born from lived experience and a powerful vision for change. Inspired by the personal experiences of our founder, Pa M. L. Joof, who grew up in The Gambia where power outages and energy poverty are part of daily life. As a child, he studied by candlelight, often without electricity at home or school. He witnessed firsthand how the lack of power limited opportunities, hindered education, and burdened families, especially women, including his late mother (God bless her soul), who faced immense challenges managing household responsibilities without modern energy access. Determined to transform these hardships into hope, Pa set out to create a solution that would bring light, opportunity, and dignity to those affected by energy scarcity. He envisioned a future where access to power is not a privilege, but a right. 

Today, SolarGambia is delivering innovative, reliable, and affordable solar energy solutions that empower families, support women, strengthen communities, and drive inclusive development across the country and beyond. What began as a personal mission has evolved into a movement to illuminate lives and power a brighter, more equitable future for all. From rural electrification to renewable infrastructure projects, SolarGambia is partnering with governments, development agencies, and private sector organizations to power progress, one household, one community, one project, and one future at a time.
